Join the Geothermal Rising Board of Directors to learn about the association's recent accomplishments, ongoing projects and future goals! The GR Board will also be recognizing individuals that have made significant achievements in the geothermal academic, scientific and commercial communities. This year the GR Board is proud to present the inaugural Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Champion Award. The Awards presentation will be followed by a panel presentation spearheaded by the DEI Task Force.

Advancing DEI Through Mentorship, Allyship and Sponsorship: There has been a growing awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) among companies, organizations, and institutions. However, progress is slow going. Part of the reason is that organizations prioritize diversity without having the strategy and support system to promote equity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging. In this panel, we examine three different relationships - allyship, mentorship, and sponsorship and how they may help advance DEI. We discuss what happens when persons from a privileged group works to help remove systems that challenge the ability of a marginalized group to thrive; how guidance in one’s professional and personal life helps underrepresented groups to excel, and how change happens when influential people use their personal clout to advocate for marginalized groups. We address what has worked and what will be instrumental in creating a strong, inclusive culture that drives development, professional growth, and a sense of belonging in the geothermal community and beyond.
