Description:

2:00 PM - 2:20 PM
  • Geothermal Potential Assessment Through An Integrated And Agile Modeling Solution
  • Presented by AspenTech

In this methodology presented here, we will discuss how a geoscience team can choose to build a regular grid to fast-track the resource assessment or create a geologically constrained grid derived from a structural model for a more accurate assessment of geothermal potential. A 3D grid, combined with the results of the well data analysis, is used to support the geothermal resource estimation. Based on the available data and the user’s objectives, three approaches are available to assess geothermal potential: 1] A qualitative approach based on the concept of “play fairway analysis” to identify locations of high potential geothermal systems based on geologic factors that control the occurrence of a geothermal system. 2] A static quantitative approach that allows the estimation of heat-in-place, theoretical capacity, and technical potential. The calculation uses the 3D information about porosity, rock and fluid density, rock and fluid specific heat, and temperature. 3] A dynamic quantitative approach by exporting the 3D grid to a flow simulator such as TOUGH2 to simulate the forecast production.

Speaker: David Garcia, AspenTech Subsurface Science & Engineering

2:30 PM - 2:50 PM
  • Geothermal Drilling - when experience counts
  • Presented by Kenai Drilling

With over 20 years of experience drilling geothermal wells, Kenai Drilling has become the leading geothermal drilling contractor in the United States. During the past 20 years, Kenai has drilled over 230 geothermal wells, encompassing 1.3 million man hours, for a diverse range of customers throughout the Western United States. We have been able to maintain our dominant position in the geothermal drilling market through our dedication to safety and innovation. Through our long-term and newly generated business relationships in the industry, we will continue to contribute to successful geothermal projects by delivering cutting edge, safe and efficient drilling services. Members of Kenai’s executive team are in attendance and are looking forward to connecting with existing and new customers to discuss how we can help.

Speaker: Collin Crist, M & A, Business Development
